MILU: Módulo de Interfaz Lingüístico Universal

The MILU project was carried out thanks to funding provided jointly by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid, under their joint program for the creation and consolidation of research groups. It was a one-year funding effort for 2007.

The funding obtained for MILU helped to cover research expenses for the group in the growth process that took it from its inception to the achievement of the critical mass it now has.

As part of this effort, the GUIDE system was developed as an operational prototype of some of the functionalities that the group can provide in the field of natural langauge generation (NLG). This system was entered for the GIVE shared task evaluation challenge. The results of this challenge were presented at the European Natural Language Workshop, held in April 2009 in Athens, in conjunction with EACL. The NIL entry to this challenge was very well placed in the final ranking.
