I study how narrative works in the mind—and what changes in us when we engage with stories. My research looks at the cognitive processes behind narrative structure, memory, learning, attention, and emotion, and how these processes shape understanding and decision-making. The goal is to turn insights from cognitive science into computational models that explain (and can predict) the impact a story has on people.

From there, I build and test interactive systems that put these models to work: adaptive storytelling experiences, educational tools, and immersive simulations where information, guidance, and feedback are designed around how people actually perceive and learn. A key part of my work is evaluation with users—measuring not just whether a system “works,” but what it changes in comprehension, recall, engagement, and performance, and why. Over time, I aim to connect theory and practice: models that are cognitively grounded, and applications that make those models useful in real settings.
