Virginia Francisco

Virginia Francisco (PhD) works as Associate Professor (Profesora Titular de Universidad) at the Departamento de Ingeniería del Software e Inteligencia Artificial de la Facultad de Informática de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She is also a member of the Instituto de Tecnología del Conocimiento.

Her research work focuses on the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP), applying her knowledge in this field to:

  • Affective Computing: Virginia is interested in the importance of emotions in any attempt to make computer interfaces respond in some way to the affective nature of the content they handle. She is specially interested in marking up of texts with emotions.
  • Computational Creativity: She is also interested in Figurative Language, paticularly in exploring how rethorical figures of speech, such as analogies and comparisons, can be used to convey information implicitly in automatically generated texts.
  • Accesibility: Virginia is also dedicated to applying her research in the areas above to accessibility in order to improve the daily lives of people with disabilities.
